Activities Victoria Falls

Bungee Jump Victoria Falls bridge
Abseil Rapp Jump Victoria Falls

Take on the mighty Zambezi with the wildest one-day trip on the planet, below one of the seven-natural-wonders, the Victoria Falls. On offer are full & half-day rafting and riverboarding trips which are seriously fun, depart daily, include lunch, teas/coffees & transfers and all trips offer photo & DVD coverage.

The rapids on the Zambezi are officially defined as “Grade 5” by the British Canoe Union (Grade 6 being commercially un-run-able)! Hang on for a wild ride as the mighty Zambezi carves its way through one of the great river corridors of the world. This is the domain of the Nyaminyami, the River God of the Tonga people and turned into a highway for rafts.

The best time to raft the Zambezi is October & November when the water is lowest, warmest and at it’s clearest. Rafting operations normally close when the water rises enough to make the rapids too dangerous to run safely. This generally happens in May to June and varies in length dependant on the river level.

Zip Line (Foofie Slide) Can you handle the adrenaline rush of travelling at a speed of 106 km’s hurtling 425m across the gorge, while suspended 120m above the breathtaking beauty of the Zambezi water below? As the river zigzags down the Batoka Gorges, our cable is suspended across from one side to the other. For this activity you are harnessed and attached to a pulley, then launched over the edge gathering speed as you descend over the water and reaching a speed of 106 km an hour. This is the longest Zip Line (Foofie Slide) ride in the world.

Gorge Swing A giant, 95m long and 120m high above the Zambezi River. A breathtaking 70m free fall before you begin swinging. This high-wire is suspended across the vast Batoka Gorge at a point spanning 316m and plunging a staggering 120m. A harness is attached to the jumper and then the jumping ropes, the other end of which is pivoted to the middle of the cable. The jumper leaps off the edge of the gorge, free falling about 70m before going into a 95m long pendulum type swing.

Visit to the Victoria Falls

The Falls are in walking distance (2 km) from Amadeus Garden and you can do the tour on your own - no crocodile as the picture on top suggests - if in doubt, guided tours are available on request. The duration is approximately 3 hours or less. Opening times of the Victoria Falls rain forest are from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

National Parks Zimbabwe charges an entry fee of US$ 30 per adult. Recommended times are from 9 to 12 a.m. or from 3 p.m. onwards, because temperatures are pleasant and light conditions ideal to capture that rainbow photograph. Rain-jackets are a must unless you like to get soaked! During the high water period (January to August), approximately 250 Million litres of water a minute crush down 100 meters - that's a big thunder!

The Zambian side of the Victoria Falls is worth visiting during the high water period as it provides a close up view of the eastern Falls when in full flood. But the Falls water levels depend on the rainfall in the catchment areas. Visitors can walk over the railway bridge and enter Zambia; but you have to buy a day visa (Zambia charges US$ 20 as of January 2009), entry fee on the Zambian side of the Falls is US$ 20 per adult).
